On "spent" hens disposal
his is how farmers think about their egg laying hens: "So what is spent fowl?
Simply put, spent fowl are old laying hens: a by-product of egg and hatching egg production. Whereas broiler chickens are raised for meat consumption, spent fowl hens lay eggs for approximately 60 weeks beforehand; when their productivity declines, they are processed for their meat."
